OEB issues fraud warning

The OEB was informed that fraudsters are advertising using a fake Utility phone number on the internet – via a fake website. They act as a “go-between” using customers' information to call the Utility and try to obtain account/billing information from contact centre agents.

The fraudster will then get credit card information directly from the customer. In some cases, the fraudster has made a payment on the customer’s account.

To report a possible scam, customers should contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre toll-free at 1-888-495-8501. You may also any suspicious activity directly to the OEB by phone at 1-877-632-2727 (toll-free within Ontario).
